It was my mates 60th birthday a week before my 60th a couple of weeks back.

I decided to make him a little gift from some Oak he had given me about 7 years ago. He had to have the Oak tree felled in his garden so I offered to take as much of the trunk as I could after it had laid on the ground for about a month....
I'd cut it into planks on my bandsaw and kept it in Stick for all those years, then run through my planer thicknesser to final dimensions. 

I was pleasantly surprised to find some of the Oak planks had Spalted, so picked the less punky planks and the mitered box I made for him is shown in the pictures below....

Finish was 6 coats of sanding sealer flatted down between coats and final finish was Microcrystalline Wax buffed.

   

   

   

   

   

   

It's about 380mm wide x 190mm deep x 100mm tall and all the Oak is about 9mm thick and lined with black felt.
